Harry Redknapp, manager of Tottenham Hotspur and an Englishman, says that an Englishman should replace Fabio Capello, when the latter finishes his contract.
Why?
Well it seems simply because it should be an Englishman. Okay that's it then.
Except, I look at the English Premier League and see Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger as the two most successful managers and neither are English. Either would make a great candidate for the job.
The leading English men?
Harry himself but he does I believe still have the matter of a court appearance hanging over him.
Sam Allardyce? If you like your football robust rather than refined he could be a contender.
Alan Curbishley - something suggests a lack of loyalty, to me.
Alan Pardew - deserves some recognition for sticking with NUFC but not this.
Neil Warnock - Past his sell by date and he plays Joey Barton!
Tony Pulis - A bit like Sam and what happens if England don't get many throw-ins?
Roy Hodgson - good candidate but maybe now too old? I know Sir Alex is older but....
David Moyes - I know he is not English but can teach others how to be loyal and get your head down and work with what you're given rather than moan.
If we were looking outside the EPL, for an Englishman, then surely Stuart Pearce would be the ideal candidate, though he might be considered too youthful for some, the work he has done in nurturing the England youth teams has been fantastic.
Maybe be radical - Roberto Martinez and Stuart Pearce??
Euro 2012 and the departure of Capello, also gives the new manager and England the chance to clean out the tired and tested (and found wanting) prima donnas (Terry, Lampard, Gerard) and bring in players who relish with pride the opportunity to pull on an England shirt.
Let's hope they do the same for the England Rugby Team!
Contrast and compare - England's national Football, Rugby Union and Cricket teams!!
